Joyce's Pine Needle Art CARTHAGE, NORTH CAROLINA |
![]() |
Hello, I'm Joyce and I'd like to welcome you to my web page. First, let me introduce myself and tell you a little about my interest in Pine Needle Art. I guess you could say I'm a Pine Needle Junkie! I'm a resident of Carthage, North Carolina, the Home of the Long Leaf Pine. Some of my ancestors were pine needle basket makers. Gladys Guelds, a distant relative, taught at Sandhills Community College. Her work is on display at the Historic Malcom Blue Farm and Museum.
Some of my work has been sold nationwide. It started out as a hobby, but, soon turned into a business. I have taught at several ladies clubs. Some of my work has been sold at the Pinehurst Theater Building, Jug Town Pottery in Jug Town, North Carolina, at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Chapel Hill, North Carolina - also at the Pinehurst Centennial in Pinehurst, North Carolina. I have shipped my work to most of the states in the USA as well as to Japan and China. I own and operate my business by myself and everything made from pinecones and pine needles are accomplished completely with my own two hands. I also grow my own vegetables to make my dried vegetable flowers. My dried apples and dried sweet potato roses take center stage in some of my pinecone and pine needle art. Among my other dried vegetable roses are beets, red and yellow apples, turnips, rutabagas and Irish potatoes. They are all over my house waiting, in different stages of preparation, becoming ready to bloom as roses. It fills me with enormous pride to walk among the beauty of nature in the majestic state of North Carolina to gather the plentiful supplies, given freely by God's own hand, to make into my special craft. I can think of no other profession that could fill my time and my heart with so much joy. Having worked long hours for many years as a private duty nurse, only able to do my craft as time allowed, I feel it is time to just do it! I have reached the point in my life that I need to show my appreciation for the gifts that God has given to me and make my business the focal point of my life. There are hundreds of projects waiting to be made from pinecones and pine needles, you just need to let your imagination take over. I will do my best to supply your interests in my work and will be happy to share with you what I know about Pine Needle Basketry and Pinecone Art. Thank you for being my guest on a tour through my home on the world wide web. I welcome any suggestions you would like to offer on project tips or information you would like to see on my page, or any items you would like made and offered for sale.
